Typeface ranges

In the beginning of the 80s of XX century the company Adobe Systems developed a new method, which describes any image with the usage of vectors or contours. It became possible to create various dimensions and variations from a single digital image. In order for the image to look good its digital output was saved in a pixel form. The same company invented PostScript – language which allowed to describe pages, fonts, filling of the windows, font family. And the last invention was the PostScript interpreter which interpreted new formats. So the entire polygraphy had changed simultaneously at the same time. Five years have passed and instead of typesetting industry typography had moved into desktop computers.

A great amount of all kinds of fonts are included in modern computers, there’s much more of them than there were twenty years ago. But no matter how many of them are out there their quality does not improve. There is a great deal of bad fonts which fill up the majority of computers since they are available to everyone on the internet. “Font” is a typeface but the usage of this word nowadays is wrong and its meaning is coming back. According to the opinion of many people this word can describe the whole typeface. This is a mistake since typeface – is a family of all existing fonts in all kinds of sizes and options, whether it be italics or bold font, this is a set of fonts that differ based on face, intensity and density. Typefaces of different fonts have their separate name, for example literary or academic typeface.

Typeface of the font during work can be estimated almost on every computer but not everyone thinks about it. Typeface range of fonts varies from the most simple ones, that are set up on four faces – upright, italic, bold and bold italic up to complex ones that have more than ten possible fonts. Complex ranges of typefaces for the most part are used for typography and for work with foreign languages.
